Summary
Mixed but bullish on the long-term memory shortage thesis, though ADR premium and near-term volatility create caution. • Consensus that AI-driven DRAM demand will outstrip supply for years, with shortages expected to persist into 2028 and beyond (, , ) • Valuations are extremely low: SKHY trades below 4x estimated 2027 earnings per share, implying profits could equal the entire market cap in five years (, ) • The ADR trades at a ~43% premium over Korean-listed shares, but conversion is blocked until July 29, creating arbitrage uncertainty that prompted some profit-taking (, , ) • Price has been highly volatile—up 25% on debut, then down 10%—with new 2x long/short daily ETFs adding to trading activity (, ) • Customers are pushing back against ~30% DRAM price hikes, slightly lowering near-term growth forecasts for the third quarter () • Broader market risks include a 9% KOSPI drop and tariff concerns, but most authors see the semiconductor weakness as a buying opportunity ()

$SKHY +6% in pre and +10% off the overnight lows. Should set the tone for the DCB in the memory space today if this holds?

Kim Sunwoo of Meritz Securities: "This Is Not the Time to Sell Samsung Electronics and $SKHY" They claim markets are excessively misunderstanding the situation with semis. And that DRAM shortage will intensify in the second half of this year. - H2 2026: "suppliers can fulfill only 75%–80% of DRAM demand". - 2027: "fulfillment is expected to fall into the 60% range." In the article, they attached market forecasts that show SK Hynix with a 2027 3.5x P/E and Samsung a 3.9x P/E. Think the $INTC CEO said it best around timeframes with his quote "no relief in memory supply or pricing until at least 2028". Especially after $MU 16 LTAs with favorable take or pay volume contracts... memory demand seems structural.

To the people selling their memory stocks and/or the people that don’t understand the current supply/demand dynamics… please watch the interview below. Dylan from @SemiAnalysis_ says DRAM prices will increase another 100-200% from here because demand is increasing exponentially but supply is only increasing 20-30% per year and there’s no new supply coming until 2028. Right now $MU (Micron) is trading below 5x 2027 EPS estimates and $SKHY (SK Hynix) is trading below 4x 2027 EPS estimates. At the current prices these companies will generate profits equal to their entire market cap within the next 5 years. Will be interesting to watch them buyback $100-150B of stock per year at 5x EPS. NFA. DYOR. *we own $MU and $SKHY either directly or indirectly at @FirstWaveFund

RSI on $DRAM hit 89 just a few weeks ago... since then $DRAM has pulled back -36%, given back more than 50% of it's gains since launch and RSI is now under 40 btw: $MU trading below 5x CY2027 EPS $SKHY trading below 4x CY2027 EPS https://t.co/MROyrlTwjK

KOSPI is down 7%. The Bank of Korea just hiked 25bps to 2.75%, its first rate hike since January 2023 June inflation ran 3.2%, the fastest in over two years, with the BOK pointing to the chip boom fueling sticky prices and growth strong enough to handle higher rates Institutions and foreigners have absorbed 7.3 trillion won of stock in the last two sessions while retail capitulated with the fifth largest net sell on record The BOK itself says this cycle is different, structural AI demand and HBM supply constraints, not a normal chip upcycle $EWY $SKHY

Excerpt from GFHK’s monthly call: Memory sector commentary Customers are pushing back strongly against price increases approaching 30%, leading us to slightly lower our forecast for DRAM price growth in the third quarter. By contrast, we are becoming more positive on NAND. Demand for KV cache offloading continues to exceed expectations, while there is also an emerging trend of substituting expensive DRAM with NAND. We also have a positive view on SK hynix’s second-quarter results. We expect revenue of KRW 85 trillion and a gross margin of 63%. $SKHY $MU $SNDK

Some people have asked for my view on the $SKHY premium versus the KRX-listed common shares, and a few have already bought $SKDD to short the US ADR. Honestly, this is beyond my knowledge... My understanding is that fungibility is asymmetric: investors can cancel ADSs and convert them into Korean common shares, but creating new ADSs from KRX shares is restricted, slow, and costly. Otherwise, the obvious arbitrage—short $SKHY and buy 000660 on the KRX—would close the gap much faster. I took profit on roughly 20% of my $SKHY position post market as I was shocked by how much more it surged than when I posted... and I'm letting the rest run. I’m not interested in buying the dip of $SKHY here. I’d rather let the market settle and make the consensus of the premium level then continue the trades, my rough sense is anywhere between 25-35% is reasonable.

This is my new favorite chart... NTM FCF estimates for semis vs hyperscalers **if they added $SKHY the chart would look even more parabolic for semis https://t.co/O0yG12tZ29

SK Hynix (local) ie A000660.KS is now trading at a 43% discount to $SKHY (SK Hynix ADR, up +23% today) which should mean that SK Hynix (local) will be up significantly tonight when the KOSPI opens for trading at 8pm EST. Additionally, SK Square which owns 20% of SK Hynix (local) is trading at a 40-50% discount to SK Hynix (local). Add it up and SK Square is currently trading at a massive discount to $SKHY -- this gap will likely tighten up in the coming weeks/months. **We own SK Square at @FirstWaveFund

Overall charts in the Memory space look constructive. Building out new bases. $SNDK $MU $DRAM $SKHY https://t.co/ABtSwFV1hI

$SKHY LFG, the US market has much higher liquidity and the true power for the price discovery. KR market heavily depends on the leveraged ETF mostly owned by the retailers, it’s not stable.

KOSPI opened (South Korea index) at 8pm EST… started slightly green, then went red and now back to flat. I do think SK Hynix and/or SK Square are very compelling buys after a -40% pullback. SK Hynix (SK) / $SKHY is now trading below 4.5x NTM EPS and below 4.0x 2027 EPS NFA. DYOR. We own SK Hynix through SK Square and $DRAM.

reason markets are struggling right now... - trump putting a new 20% "cargo tariff" means prices could go up, meaning inflation goes up, meaning more potential for rate hikes - iran is proxy targeting refineries against middle eastern allies including bahrain and kuwait, not good for oil prices or general escalation - kospi got wrecked last night -9% which is hurting the $SKHY SK Hynix along with the memory names in the US and if the memory names get hurt, the rest of the semis follow the good thing is, software names $IGV $PLTR $SHOP $RDDT $CRM $NOW $ADBE $FIG $ZETA are getting some of the rotation so the broader breadth of the market is widening out high-beta names in July have just not done well and it feels like this July is becoming very similar to the past 5 years, which is really just creating a month of consolidation for the most momentum driven names

SK Hynix $SKHY is already down about 11% from its highs since the U.S. listing began trading. Tomorrow, options and the Leverage Shares ETFs are expected to begin trading: $SKHX: 2x long $SKHZ: 1x short More volatility coming? https://t.co/14E1F38dBA

$SKHY $SKHYV regarding the recent comments from Sk Hynix CEO... They currently expect the memory shortage to persist beyond 2030. Which aligns with my thoughts that the AI bull run isn't even close to being done. We got a couple more years IMO. $MU CEO said the same last month... They "do not have line of sight as to when memory supply will be able to catch up with increasing demand." Greenfield fab lead times are 5+ years. SK Hynix is doubling wafer capacity over the next 5 years and even that won't close the gap. Every new AI accelerator needs HBM. Every agentic AI workload burns memory. Every data center buildout multiplies the demand. The supply side physically cannot scale fast enough. And now we have physical AI in its early innings. Names that benefit the most? $MU on the HBM side. $SNDK on NAND. And the entire AI infrastructure basket that I've been charting, $WYFI included. MANY trade setups to maximize gains in the coming weeks, months, and years. We'll be on top of this 24/7. 🫡📈
